Cherry Tyfield and her "Vortex Cards" (part 2)

Cherry Tyfield is a disciple of "Dr" Jeff Levin, one of the few quacks in the market who claims to treat diseases with pieces of cardboard.

The last time I submitted a complaint about Cherry's Vortex Cards, I received a small chorus of dissenting voices. "Come try it for yourself!", they cried.

But, where is the evidence, I asked? The reply was

"I am sure at some point someone will sort out all the clinical trials and peer review stuff..."

A year later and Cherry's enthusiasm seems to be undiminished. Her latest handout (available here and here) promotes something called "Life Alignment".

"LIFE ALIGNMENT techniques can help you to: ... Identify the root cause of issues and help relieve... learning difficulties, allergies, sleep disturbances and hormonal imbalances... Strengthen the immune system and detoxify the body... Relieve pain rapidly by healing the related issue..."

Those who missed out the first time will be relieved to hear that Cherry's Vortex Cards are still available.

"Vortex Alignment [cards bring] a revolutionary technology and an invaluable dimension through the use of highly energized [sic] magnetic cards that work on the inner environment (the body) and the outer environment. For the body, the cards help to accelerate the healing process. Relative to the outer environment, they help to protect us from... harmful electromagnetic radiation emitted by cellular/mobile phones, electrical appliances, high tension wires, etc..."

A big hello to all Cherry and everyone at Life Alignment! It was such a pleasure to meet you all again at Mind Body Spirit last week. Sorry I couldn't identify myself, but I hope you'll understand that people like me get thrown out of these events with a monotonous regularity.

ASA complaint follows.

"I'm writing to complain about a handout for Cherry Tyfield, which I picked up from a stall at the 'Mind Body Spirit' exhibition in London on 26th May.

The handout promotes a range of "LIFE ALIGNMENT" products - "VORTEX CARDS", a "VORTEX PENDANT" and "VORTEX SPRAYS"

1. "LIFE ALIGNMENT techniques can help you to: ... Identify the root cause of issues and help relieve... learning difficulties, allergies, sleep disturbances and hormonal imbalances... Strengthen the immune system and detoxify the body... Relieve pain rapidly by healing the related issue..."

I'd like to challenge whether the advertiser can substantiate her claim that the products can treat learning difficulties, allergies and hormonal imbalances, strengthen the immune system, detoxify the body, "relieve pain rapidly" and cause "healing [of] the related issue".

2. "Vortex Alignment [cards bring] a revolutionary technology and an invaluable dimension through the use of highly energized [sic] magnetic cards that work on the inner environment (the body) and the outer environment. For the body, the cards help to accelerate the healing process. Relative to the outer environment, they help to protect us from... harmful electromagnetic radiation emitted by cellular/mobile phones, electrical appliances, high tension wires, etc..."

I'd like to challenge whether the advertiser can substantiate her claim that the Vortex Cards can "accelerate the healing process" and "protect us from...harmful electromagnetic radiation emitted by cellular/mobile phones".

I can confirm that I have no connections with the advertiser or with the alternative medicine industry in general."
