Cherry Tyfield and her "Vortex Cards"

.
Cherry Tyfield is the UK Coordinator for the promotion of Vortex Cards, about which she makes some incredible claims. (Read them for yourself here, here, here and here).

On Cherry's website you'll find this enchanting photo of the suckers (did I say suckers? I meant, "visionaries") who are among the first Brits to benefit from these miracle products.

I'm quite puzzled about Cherry's Nobel Prize nomination, though. Has it been lost in the post, along with all the others? (ASA complaint follows.)

"I write to complain about a flyer I picked up at the "Mind, Body & Spirit" festival, in London, in May this year.

The flyer, for Cherry Tyfield, promotes "Vortex Cards".

I suspect that the flyer may be in breach of two sections of the British Code of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing (CAP) code. I can provide the original flyer by post, if necessary.

1. I have been unable to find any clinical evidence for the healing properties of "Vortex Cards" on the PubMed website or elsewhere.

2. Under Sections 3.1 and 50.1, I challenge whether the advertiser holds documentary evidence to prove the following claims, and I challenge whether the claims are backed by evidence, where appropriate consisting of trials conducted on people:

(i) Vortex cards can "balance every aspect of our environment as well as healing our bodies"

(ii) Vortex cards "have demonstrated remarkable ability [sic] to heal the body, in relieving pain, structural alignment, balancing the organs and body systems, chakras and subtle energy fields"

(iii) The "magnetic material used" in Vortex cards "has been restructured in such a way to emit sub-atomic particles that reorganize [sic] the atmosphere in harmony with our multidimensional bodies. They thereby balance the harmful effects of these pollutants and convert them into a healing frequency."

(iv) The Hexagon Vortex Card can be "used to oxygenate the air" and "helps neutralize [sic] the harmful effects of radiation from cell phone towers and all energies transmitted through the air"

(v) The Hexagon Vortex Card "assists in rapidly oxygenating the blood, which has created great relief for those with respiratory conditions"

(vi) The Hexagon Vortex Card "relieves airborne allergies and is used by athletes to enhance endurance and minimize [sic] lactic acid buildup [sic]"

(vii) The Triangle Vortex Card "will rapidly affect all the plants in a home or office" and, outdoors, will "rapidly energize [sic] a large area enhancing growth"

(viii) The Triangle Vortex Card "reduce[s] fungal growth"

(ix) The Triangle Vortex Card "has a grounding effect on the body as well as helping detoxify the liver"

(x) The Square Vortex Card protects against "electromagnetic fields" and "helps to magnify a person's energy field"

(xi) The Square Vortex Card "activates circulation...and accelerate healing", as well as improving "the flow of energy in the joints...enhances flexibility and is effective in relieving pain"

(xii) In water and food, the Pentagon Vortex Card "neutralize[s] the negative effect of chemicals, preservatives and other pollutants"

(xiii) The Pentagon Vortex Card "energize[s] water"

(xiv) The Pentagon Vortex Card causes "significant changes" in the blood detectable by "Dark Field Microscopy"

(xv) The Generator Vortex Card "boosts the effect of all the other cards" and also has a "profound effect on pain, correcting the underlying imbalance. It helps to energize [sic] the immune and neurological systems."

(xvi) The Heart Vortex Card "works on the endocrine system"

(xvii) The Rainbox Vortex Card "balances and harmonizes [sic] the atmosphere of an entire house..." and "emits a frequency that neutralizes [sic] the negative effects of electro-magnetic radiation...and toxic energies..."

(xviii) The Rainbox Vortex Card "can be used on the body to heal and relieve pain"

(xix) The Trust Vortex Card "acts as an energetic anti-oxidant, helping to protect cellular integrity"

(xx) The Cell/Mobile Phone Vortex Card "polarizes [sic] and transforms the harmful microwave radiation emitted by the phone to frequencies that harmonize [sic] with the human energy field. Tests have shown that the body's aura is significantly enhanced when using the card."

(xxi) The Octagon Vortex Card "has a powerful effect on micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses, etc"

(xxii) The Seed of Life Vortex Card "creates a powerful vortex around the home creating strong protection from all external energies" and "helps to balance the neuro-transmitters, such as seretonin and dopamine"

3. I confirm that I have no connections with the advertiser. I confirm that I am not involved in legal proceedings with the advertiser."

  1. WOW ! Its quite amazing to this 'sucker' (bottom right) that you take such time and trouble to go into great detail to refute something as harmless as this so robustly............ Are you suggesting that you might wish to bring a legal action ?

Have you had any luck with that in the past? Has litigation sorted out any of your 'issues' ?

Perhaps it would help you to have a complimentary session with me to find out for yourself if there is any truth in the claims? That might be a way to de-tox some of the vitriol behind your attack on the method............and on Cherry and the rest of the Life Alignment Group pictured.

I would be more than happy to offer you my services as a Life Alignment and Vortex Practitioner please contact me on alignmentworks@me.com.

Should you actually put your energy behind a legal challenge, surely you would have to join every single modality offering its wares at the Mind Body Spirit festival, and that's a court case I would LOVE to be part of !

With Best wishes, and hope for a meeting soon, Lynne Carr JP

  2. Hi Lynne,

I'd love to engage your professional services at some point in the near future. The claims your Life Alignment group makes are very exciting.

But before I do, I'd still like to see some scientific evidence that support the claims.

For example, I want to see randomised, double-blinded clinical trials demonstrating that the Octagon Vortex Card "has a powerful effect on micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses, etc".

I also want to see a study published in a peer-reviewed journal of physics that the Pentagon Vortex Card "energizes water", and another in a respectable chemistry journal demonstrating that the same cad "neutralize[s] the negative effect of chemicals, preservatives and other pollutants".

Perhaps you can post links to those studies here?

  3. why dont you just take up the offer and find out for yourself.

you take a pill and get better, we say the pill worked.

you have healing and get better, what do you say then, maybe etc etc.

proof is personal. we cant see love, but we feel it.

two people have the same trauma and both can react very differently.

my point is, life just doesnt need to be so scientific, go by your own experience.

  4. Do give it a try, I am really happy to offer this for you, no strings attached ! All in the spirit of openess. I am sure at some point someone will sort out all the clinical trials and peer review stuff, just now I am filling my time with the actual work, but I am hoping that you will try it out sometime soon,

    go on !

  5. Dear Skeptical letter writer
I would love to hear the results of your session with Lynne Carr. I believe that the best evidence is gained through personal experience!
I am a Life Alignment Practitioner in Perth, Western Australia and have been a witness to things I cannot explain logically in my sessions. There are just some things the mind cannot justify and comprehend.

If you aren't able to see Lynne in person, I am sure she would give you a session via Skype or via the phone.

    warm regards

  6. Hi Dawn,

I didn't arrange any sessions with Lynne and, darn it, the UK websites have all been down for some time now.

Can you tell me about the amazing results you've witnessed?

  7. The point of being a skeptic is you test it. Then you can decide for yourself what your position is on something. I highly recommend you try as there is little to lose other than time.

I use vortex cards all the time and they enhance my life dramatically.

Best of luck, I hope your destructive path ends in personal truth for you.

  8. Hi Anonymous,

The point of being a sceptic is that you ask professionals - people who studied for long years to qualify in their field - to test it under controlled conditions and publish their results.

"Trying it for yourself" doesn't really cut the mustard. I pray to the Roman God of War before every football match, but that doesn't mean the intercessory powers of Mars are some kind of scientific fact!
